ASLIA TAS

ASLIA Tasmania

Australian Sign Language Interpreters Association Tasmania

ASLIA Tas is a professional dynamic membership association of Auslan interpreters, which believes that interpreters provide an active link between the people of two cultures and their respective languages, Auslan and English.

ASLIA Tas plays an essential role in promoting high ethical standards and quality service provision, and advocating for the rights of interpreters.

Members of ASLIA Tas represent a wide cross section of Auslan interpreters, including experienced people as well as newly trained interpreters, providing a pool of talented, committed and enthusiastic members.

The association has strong ties with the Deaf community and has always valued the contributions that they have made.

Workshops are conducted during the year which may cover many areas using the expertise of members and guest trainers including:

  • Preparation for NAATI testing
  • Ethics and code of conduct
  • Educational interpreting
  • Theatre interpreting
  • Conference interpreting
  • Team interpreting
  • Language acquisition
  • Auslan skill development
  • Personal welfare
  • Social activities

  • Training workshop.

ASLIA Tas was established in 1994, when Steve Robinson recognized the need for an ASLIA association to be established in Tasmania. ASLIA-TAS, along with the associations in other states, is a member of ASLIA National.

Members hold regular meetings to organize workshops, social functions and fund raising events through-out the year.

Members located in the Launceston and Ulverstone areas are linked to the meeting in Hobart by conference phones.
